Registration for Minnetonka Big Willow Baseball Now Open

Free Winter Clinics February 13, 17 & 20

MINNETONKA, Minn., January 12, 2016 – Registration is open for the 2016 season at Minnetonka Big Willow Baseball, a youth league for boys and girls ages 4-12 in the Hopkins, Minnetonka and surrounding area. Players of all skill levels are welcome and will be encouraged to develop a love of baseball through quality instruction that emphasizes teamwork, good sportsmanship and the development of baseball skill and strategy.

Registration is available on www.bigwillowbaseball.com; families who register by January 31 will receive a discount of $15 off their registration fee. The registration deadline is March 7.

Big Willow makes baseball fun and offer four divisions: Mites (recreational t-ball for 4-6 year olds), Juniors (developmental machine pitch for 7-8 year olds), Farm (skills-building kid pitch for 9-10 year olds), and Majors (competitive house league for 11-12 year olds).

Travel and tournament teams are also offered for 9-12 year olds who are interested in more competitive baseball in addition to playing in the house league. Tryouts and player evaluations will take place on February 27 and March 5 & 6. Check the Big Willow web site for details on locations and times.

Free Winter Clinics in February

In February, Big Willow is offering free winter baseball clinics for 7-12 years olds where experienced coaches will provide instruction on pitching, catching, hitting and fielding fundamentals. The clinics will be held at Hopkins North Junior High Activity Structure on the following days and times:

  • Saturday, February 13
    • Juniors (7-8 year olds) 4:00-5:00 p.m.
    • Farm (9-10 year olds) 5:00-6:30 p.m.
    • Majors (11-12 year olds) 6:30-8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday February 17
    • Juniors 5:30-6:30 p.m.
    • Farm 6:30-8:00 p.m.
    • Majors 8:00-9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday February 20
    • Juniors 4:00-5:00 p.m.
    • Farm 5:00-6:30 p.m.
    • Majors 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Kids should bring a baseball glove, bat, helmet and water bottle, and should wear tennis shoes (no cleats).

2016 opening Day will be Sunday, May 1 and the season runs approximately 9 weeks. Games are played at beautiful Big Willow Park, located just west of the intersection of Minnetonka Boulevard and Hopkins Crossroad, where you’ll find first-class fields, a full concession stand and playground.

While based in Minnetonka, Big Willow’s house league is open to all who are interested, and players come from Hopkins, Golden Valley, Plymouth, Edina, St. Louis Park, Wayzata and more.
